Anti-social behaviour

Find out what anti-social behaviour is and how to report it

Last updated: 27th November

Anti-social behaviour (ASB) can have a serious impact on individuals and communities. We work with partners across Staffordshire to help reduce ASB and support those affected.

What is anti-social behaviour?

ASB is defined by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 as:

“Acting in a manner that causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons not of the same household as the complainant.”

This includes a wide range of behaviours, such as:

  • Rowdy or inconsiderate behaviour
  • Vehicle-related nuisance
  • Neighbour disputes
  • Vandalism or graffiti
  • Intimidation or verbal abuse

How to report anti-social behaviour

If you or someone you know is affected by ASB, you can report it in the following ways:

In an emergency:

  • If someone is in danger or a crime is in progress, call 999

For non-emergencies:

  • Call 101 to report to the police
  • Contact your local borough or district council
  • Use the Harmony ASB and Mediation Service (details below)
