Thousands of children and young people enjoyed an exciting festive holiday with fun and enriching activities, thanks to Staffordshire’s Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme.
Funded by the Department for Education, the scheme supports eligible children and young people aged 5 to 16 who receive free school meals. Participants could book up to four funded sessions, many of which included a healthy hot meal.
The winter programme, which ran over the festive period, delivered over six thousand sessions enjoyed by children and young people across the county. Activities included sports, dance and creative clubs, animal care, Christmas crafts and more.
Nick Lakin, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“We’re thrilled with the success of this year’s HAF winter programme, it’s been absolutely fantastic.
“Seeing more children take part each year, enjoying themselves, learning new skills and making memories in a safe and supportive environment is exactly what this scheme is all about.
“For me and this administration, the county’s children are a top priority. They are the future and the beating heart of Staffordshire. The continued positive feedback from parents and providers really shows just how much of a difference HAF makes for families during the school holidays. Well done to all involved.”
The HAF 2026 programme will be back later this year for the Easter, Summer and Winter school holidays. Information about the scheme for both participants and providers can be found on the County Council’s website.
