Eastern Avenue Lichfield
A major upgrade to a main road junction in Lichfield to provide access to a new housing development is on schedule for completion next month.
The developer-funded scheme will see the A5192 Eastern Avenue junction with Watery Lane upgraded to include additional lanes, new traffic lights, road resurfacing, new and improved paths, signs and road markings and improved drainage. There will also be a new controlled pedestrian crossing on Eastern Avenue which will significantly improve safety.
As the scheme enters its final phase and to ensure the works on Eastern Avenue/Watery Lane are completed safely, overnight closures will be needed from Monday 1 December to Friday 15 December on weeknights only. They will be in place between 7pm and 7am.
Works during the overnight closure will include removing some of the existing road surface, building up of the road to the new levels, laying surfacing material, replacing road markings and completing new traffic signals installation. Resurfacing of the Worcester Close junction will take place on December 1,2 and 3.
The improved junction will enable safe and improved access onto Watery Lane and the new Redrow Homes Curborough Lakes development, which will have nearly 470 properties.
Patrick Allen, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways, said:
The junction upgrade has been essential in providing access to the new homes development and is wholly funded by the developer.
It’s now reaching the final phase for completion in mid-December. Unfortunately, this will need overnight closures for the next fortnight to get the job done safely and on schedule. We’d again like to thank people for their patience while work has been carried out.”
A signed diversion route will be in place during the closures. Closure points will be on Eastern Avenue at the junction of Norwich Close, just west of Eastern Avenue, Watery Lane North of Kilby Avenue and in Worcester Close.
