Apply for travel under the general distance criteria

If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan, different arrangements apply.

Changing school in September?

If your child is starting school for the first time or transferring to a secondary/high or middle school in September, the application service should not be used if the child is residing within the catchment area of their preferred/allocated school. Parents of these pupils will be advised of the process for travel assistance applications on receipt of their child's school place offer on National Offer Day.

If it is not the catchment school and you think you may be entitled please read our policy before you make an online application for travel assistance (see below), but only after the school place has been offered.

Applications during the year

If you need to apply for travel help at other times, please read our policy and use the schools route checker before applying online (see below).

It may take up to 20 working days after approval of your application to arrange travel assistance.

You are expected to make and pay for your own travel arrangements during this time.

Applying for income assessed travel assistance

Applications should always be made no matter when you want travel assistance to begin. Please see the income assessed travel page for more details.
