Introduction to setting up your own business

Are you thinking about becoming your own boss but not sure where to start? Whether you have a business idea or just a passion you'd like to turn into something more, this short course is the perfect first step.

Who is this course aimed at?

The course is aimed at Staffordshire residents aged 19+. Designed for beginners, this 20-hour course introduces you to the key things you need to know when setting up a small business. You don’t need any previous experience—just curiosity, motivation, and a willingness to learn.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements, just a passion for setting up a business.

Course Content

You’ll explore the basics of setting up and running a small business in a friendly and supportive environment. Topics include, turning an idea into a business plan, understanding your customers and market, basics of budgeting and managing money, legal requirements for starting a business, branding and marketing your product or service, using social media and digital tools to promote your business, building confidence and developing your next steps.

Learning Methods

You will be taught face to face  by a friendly and experienced assessor

Learner Support

Classes are small to ensure your teacher can provide you with the help and support you need to enable you to confidently access the class learning materials. Individual specific needs will be discuss at the start of the course. 

Course Assessments

There are no formal tests or exams. Your tutor will support you throughout the course, helping you build confidence, track your progress through an individual learning plan, and look at those next steps with you.

Learning Materials

We will provide the workbooks. You will need to bring a pen and paper to take notes and to be able to complete the workbooks during the course.

What can learners do next/progress onto?

After completing the course, you may choose to continue with a more in-depth business qualification, access local enterprise support and mentoring, or take your first steps towards launching your own busines or side hustle.
