Maths Made Easy

Hated Maths at school?  Unsure of it at college?  A practical fun-filled course which will revisit key maths concepts and apply them to everyday maths, combined with quizzes and challenges that will help you see Maths with a new understanding.

Aims of course

For Staffordshire residents aged 19+ (excluding Stoke-on-Trent). Ideal for those looking to build confidence, improve everyday maths, or develop skills to support learning, daily life, or future employment.

Entry requirements

No maths experience needed – just a willingness to learn and take part! This friendly course helps you build real-life number skills in a supportive setting. You will grow in confidence, work towards personal goals, and get full support along the way. All we ask is that you attend each session, give it your best, and keep a simple learner journal. A great chance to boost your skills, meet others, and feel proud of what you can achieve!

Course content

Explore everyday maths through fun, hands-on activities! Make apple crumble to learn about ratios, use seed trays for times tables, and play Supermarket Sweep to spot the best deals. Enjoy quizzes, games, and challenges designed to build your number skills and boost your confidence in a relaxed, friendly setting. Perfect for anyone wanting to feel more confident with maths in daily life!

How you will learn?

Face-to-face learning in a classroom or outdoor setting using a mix of styles, including hands-on activities, demonstrations, short teaching videos, group discussions, quizzes, and completing handouts. You will take part in fun, practical tasks and build a personal learning folder to track your progress and achievements throughout the course.

Learner support

Learning support is available throughout the course to meet your individual needs. This can include assistance with reading, access to an iPad, or a supportive person to help build your confidence and guide you in the right direction. We are committed to helping you succeed every step of the way.

Course assessments

You will be assessed through ongoing informal methods such as quizzes, group discussions, and practical activities. You will also complete a personal learning folder to reflect on your progress and achievements. Assessment focuses on building confidence and understanding rather than formal exams. Support will be provided throughout to help you meet your individual goals.

Learning materials

No need to bring a notebook, calculator, or apron – everything is provided, including all cooking and learning materials. Just wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for a farm setting and bring reading glasses if required. Come ready to join in, have fun, and build your confidence with everyday maths in a friendly, hands-on way!

What can learners progress onto next?

You can return for spring courses, which will support further development of mathematical skills through different learning themes. For example, Cooking with Numbers begins on 8 January 2026, followed by Gardening with Numbers on 19 February 2026. Other courses are also available to support wellbeing, English, and STEM-related learning, such as Design, Craft and Create, as well as a Small Business Ideas course.
