Beginners Computing & IT

This introduction course will cover the basics of using a computer. You will be guided through a variety of computer functions including using emails effectively, how to stay safe online, understanding internet banking and shopping safely online.

Aim of the course

This course is for learners who wish to develop a basic understanding of the key skills of using a computer. Learners will develop their confidence to carry out basic commands such as sending emails, storing files and accessing online websites in a safe way. 

Entry Requirements

Staffordshire residents aged 19+. Learners who have little or no experience of using a computer and wish to develop their knowledge or refresh their skills. 

Course Content

This IT introduction to IT takes you through the basics. You will confidently learn how to send an email and add attachments. You will learn the steps to take to keep yourself safe online when accessing the internet.

How you will learn

The trainer will deliver the course in a friendly and welcoming classroom environment. You will have the opportunity to work independently and with your classmates in a range of activities and discussions.

Course materials

Learners will be provided with all course materials as part of the programme.

Learner Support

All sessions are adapted according to the individual needs of learner. Accessibility: Newcastle: Inaccessible for those with limited mobility. Burton: Ground floor fully accessible. Biddulph: Lift available fully accessible. English and Maths initial assessments are carried out prior to the start of the course.

Learner Assessment

No formal assessments will take place. Learner’s work and interactions on the course will be informally assessed with constructive feedback provided by tutors. Whilst on the course learners will complete an Individual Learning plan recording comments, feedback and work completed. 

What can learners do next/progress onto?

Throughout your course you will be provided with information and advice about other learning opportunities available to you. Progression opportunities may include other Community Learning courses, accredited courses such as maths, English or Digital or supported to seek volunteering or employment opportunities.
