Learning with Nature in the Community
Join this six-session hands-on course to support local nature. Grow wildflowers, nurture native trees, and enhance green spaces. Learn seed sowing, willow cutting, and plant care. Connect with nature, gain practical skills, and help your community thrive.
Aims of Course
Are you a Staffordshire resident (excluding Stoke-on-Trent) aged 19 or over interested in nature and community? This course offers a fantastic opportunity to develop practical skills through hands-on, nature-based activities in your local area.
Entry Requirements
No prior knowledge or experience is required, but an interest in the countryside, animals, and nature is beneficial. Learners must be willing to attend all sessions, work towards learning goals, and complete a learner journal. Commitment to practical, nature-based activities in the community is essential. Learning support is available throughout the course to help you succeed.
Course Content
You will learn practical skills in nature-based activities such as planting, habitat restoration, and wildlife monitoring. The course covers environmental awareness, teamwork, and community engagement. You will develop confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills while contributing to local green spaces and working alongside community groups.
How you will learn?
You will learn through practical, hands-on nature-based activities in your local community. Sessions include group work, guided tasks, and real-life environmental projects. There will be opportunities for discussion, reflection, and feedback to support your progress. The course is delivered in an interactive and supportive way, encouraging collaboration and personal development.
Learner support
Learning support is available throughout the course to help you succeed. This includes one-to-one guidance, additional resources, and adjustments to meet individual needs. Our tutors are approachable and committed to providing assistance with any challenges you may face, ensuring you feel safe and supported throughout.
Course Assessments
You will be assessed through practical activities, participation, completion of handouts, quizzes, and a learner journal. Regular reviews and discussions with your tutor will help track your progress. Assessments focus on demonstrating your skills and understanding of nature-based tasks and community involvement.
Learning Materials
Please bring suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear for nature-based activities. Weather-appropriate clothing such as waterproofs or sun protection is recommended. If you use reading glasses, please bring them with you too. All other materials and equipment will be provided during the course.
What can learners progress onto next?
There will be a selection of courses available for the new academic term in September. These courses support health and wellbeing, upskilling in maths and English, and include further community-based options or courses where the community comes to the learner. Additionally, there will be STEM-based courses in design, crafting, and creating, as well as a small business ideas course.
