Infant Class Size Legislation limits infant classes to no more than 30 pupils with a single teacher (additional children may be admitted under limited exceptional circumstances and will now remain as an 'excepted pupil' whilst they are in an infant class or until the class numbers fall back to 30).
The County Council and Schools Forum have agreed to reserve a minimal amount of contingency funding to support schools to comply with the legislation in very exceptional circumstances this is known as Infant Class Size Funding.
The Infant Class Size Funding should not be considered as a permanent source of income.
Schools may receive funding where their Infant Class sizes are 25 pupils or fewer based on the minimum number of infant teachers required for compliance. This is not necessarily the number of teachers preferred by the school although the Local Authority may take into account extenuating circumstances.
Only schools that are concerned that they will be unable to meet the Infant Class Size limit should complete the Infant Class Size Application Form below.
