More Office Skills

This course is for people who have used Microsoft Office before at work, in education or at home. You may have done basic tasks such as writing documents, making simple presentations or using spreadsheets.

Who is this course aimed at?

This course is for Staffordshire residents aged 19 and over. The course is designed for absolute beginners or for those with some very basic knowledge of using spreadsheets, wanting to increase confidence using spreadsheets for work and life

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Course Content

This course will look at those who wish to build upon Basic Office skills by applying these to scenarios such as planning a fictious Birthday Party or Wedding etc.  You will plan and design a poster or invitation which will include change page sizes, using shapes and tables to insert dates/times as well as downloading, copy and paste information and pictures.  You will search for the costs involved for food, venues, entertainment and a budget spreadsheet to calculate costs and discounts on quantity etc. You can present this information in the form of data graphs, charts and create a slideshow with animations, transitions and timings of the event as well as explore different methods of presentation tools using office to gain more confidence.

Learning Methods

Teaching will include tutor led sessions in small groups, 1:1 tuition, tutor demonstration, quizzes, and practical exercises. You will work at your own pace and will complete the activities using your device or the library computer. Your learning progress will be recorded. 

Learner Support

Your tutor will support you throughout your learning journey.  Your tutor will get to know you and what you want to achieve from the course and include this in the delivery of sessions.  You will also have the opportunity to have some one-to-one time with your tutor.

Course Assessments

Throughout the course you will complete a number of tasks relevant to your learning. Your tutor will give you feedback throughout using an Individual Learning Plan. The Individual Learning Plan records your learning and your achievement.

Learning Materials

On enrolment you will need to provide proof of ID (passport, national ID card, driver's licence) and proof of eligibility. For the course you will need a pen, a note pad and a documents folder. For homework you will need an internet connected device, either a PC, a laptop, an iPad, tablet or smartphone - you could do this at your local library.

What can learners do next/progress onto?

Throughout the course your tutor will provide you with information and advice about other learning opportunities. When you have completed this course, you can progress onto another digital skills courses. You may also want to gain a qualification to help you develop more skills for everyday life or for employment. You can also learn at home using Learn My Way, Skillswise or BBC Bitesize websites.
