Aim of the course
The course is designed for absolute beginners or for those with some very basic knowledge of using a device and the internet, wanting to increase confidence using your device or internet for work and life
Entry Requirements
This course is for Staffordshire residents aged 19 and over. No other formal requirements, just a willingness to learn in a supportive and friendly environment.
Course Content
This course is aimed at those without prior knowledge. Complete Beginners starting from turning on your device and entering Pins and Passcodes to logon. You will gain an understanding of using the mouse and Keyboard identifying numbers, symbols and typing text. You will further explore Basic Internet searches where you will look for shopping lists and products and prices for things you have shopped for and location distances on maps. You will also Access and read your emails sending basic messages and all with an understanding and exploring basic online safety.
How you will learn
Teaching will include tutor led sessions in small groups, 1:1 tuition, tutor demonstration, quizzes, and practical exercises. You will work at your own pace and will complete the activities using your device or the library computer. Your learning progress will be recorded.
Course materials
On enrolment you will need to provide proof of ID (passport, national ID card, driver's licence) and proof of eligibility. For the course you will need a pen, a note pad and a documents folder. For homework you will need an internet connected device, either a PC, a laptop, an iPad, tablet or smartphone - you could do this at your local library.
Learner Support
Your tutor will support you throughout your learning journey. Your tutor will get to know you and what you want to achieve from the course and include this in the delivery of sessions. You will also have the opportunity to have some one-to-one time with your tutor.
Learner Assessment
Throughout the course you will complete a number of tasks relevant to your learning. Your tutor will give you feedback throughout using an Individual Learning Plan. The Individual Learning Plan records your learning and your achievement.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
Throughout the course your tutor will provide you with information and advice about other learning opportunities. When you have completed this course, you can progress onto another digital skills course. You may also want to gain a qualification to help you develop more skills for everyday life or for employment. You can also learn at home using Learn My Way, Skillswise or BBC Bitesize websites.
