We manage the operation, maintenance and repair of all traffic signals and pedestrian crossings across Staffordshire.

Many faults are reported automatically through our monitoring systems, helping us respond quickly and reduce repair times.

Note: This page does not cover street lights, lit traffic signs or temporary traffic lights. Please visit the relevant pages for those services.

Emergency faults

We prioritise faults that pose the greatest risk. Emergency faults include:

  • All lights out
  • Lights stuck on red or green
  • Exposed electrical cables
  • Equipment that has been knocked down or is leaning
  • Units with missing doors

Please report these faults immediately and select the correct category to help us respond quickly.

Concerned about a damaged signal?

If a signal is leaning or has exposed wires, this is a safety risk.  Report it immediately

Selecting the correct category ensures the issue is prioritised, and an engineer is notified straight away.

Request a new pedestrian crossing

You can request a new crossing by:

  • Contacting your local county councillor — they may add it to their divisional highway programme
  • Submitting a request online via our pedestrian crossing request form.

How we decide where crossings go

We receive many requests each year. To make sure resources are used effectively, we survey each site and compare results against national criteria.

We assess:

  • The number of people crossing
  • The volume of traffic
  • Accident history near the site
  • Nearby features such as schools, hospitals and shops

We then create a priority list, with the most urgent locations at the top.

Due to the number of reports we receive, we usually respond electronically using your report reference.
