What information do I need to provide?

When you register your baby’s birth, the registrar will ask for specific information. This helps create an accurate legal record.

Please make sure you have the following details ready:

About the child

  • Date and place of birth
    If you’re registering twins, triplets or more, you’ll also need the time of each birth.
  • Sex of the child
  • The forename(s) and surname the child will be brought up with.

About the mother

  • Full name
    Including maiden name if currently or previously married.
  • Date and place of birth
  • Occupation - If not currently employed, you can provide details of your last job.
  • Date of marriage (if married to the father at the time of birth)
  • Number of previous children - Include children from the current or any previous marriage.

About the father (if his details are to be included)

  • Full name
  • Date and place of birth
  • Occupation - If not currently employed, you can provide details of his last job.
