Martin Rogerson says the campaign is about "making healthy choices easier and more accessible."
A new campaign to help encourage people to eat more vegetables has launched as part of Health Information Week.
The Just Add Veg campaign, being delivered by Staffordshire County Council, will inspire residents to make simple, healthy changes by adding more vegetables to their meals.
It will offer practical tips, recipes and resources to make healthy eating easy and affordable. A community challenge will also encourage people to pledge to eat more vegetables over a six-week period, with the chance to win a healthy food hamper at the end.
People can also pick up information in some local libraries and family hubs.
Martin Rogerson, Cabinet Member for Health and Care at Staffordshire County Council, said:
"We know that making small changes can make a big difference.
“This campaign is about making healthy choices easier and more accessible for everyone in Staffordshire. By simply adding more vegetables to your meals, you’re taking a positive step towards better health and reduced risk of some serious health problems.
“I always try and make sure I have a decent portion of veg with my meals and it doesn’t have to be complicated. I do enjoy roasted Mediterranean vegetables, which go nicely with lots of dishes, and of course a nice home-cooked vegetable soup is really healthy and good for you.
“I would encourage people to visit the campaign website for some great tips on healthy eating and maybe try out one of the many recipes.”
In 2023/24, only 29.4% of adults in Staffordshire met the NHS 5 A Day fruit and vegetable consumption recommendations, compared to the England average of 31.3%.
Eating more vegetables is linked to reduced risk of heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer. Packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre, vegetables are a simple way to support long-term health.
The campaign is part of wider council plans to help people make healthy lifestyle choices and maintain a healthy weight.
It also accompanies Health Information Week, which runs until Sunday 25 January and aims to promote high-quality health information to the public.
More information can be found on the campaign website, while people can sign up to join the Just Add Veg campaign here.
