A major upgrade to a main road junction in Lichfield to provide access to a new housing development has been completed.

The developer-funded scheme has upgraded the A5192 Eastern Avenue junction with Watery Lane to include additional lanes, new traffic lights, road resurfacing, new and improved paths, signs and road markings and improved drainage.

A new controlled pedestrian crossing on Eastern Avenue which will significantly improve safety and be a much-needed community asset.

The improved junction will enable safe and improved access onto Watery Lane and the new Redrow Homes Curborough Lakes development, which will have nearly 470 properties.

Daniel Cecil, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Support Member for Highways (Operations South), said:

We’re pleased that a major scheme for Lichfield has been completed before Christmas.

This is an essential upgrade to the Eastern Avenue, wholly funded by the developer to provide access to the new homes development. It’s also significantly improving pedestrian safety which is an absolute priority to us.

We understand this has been a lengthy scheme which has caused disruption, so we would again like to thank people for the patience and understanding while work was undertaken.”

Matthew Wallens, county councillor for Lichfield City North, added:

Residents have told me how important the new pedestrian crossing is to local communities and so it’s fantastic to see it operational and the scheme finished. I’d like to say a massive thank you to the highways team and McPhillips for their hard work during this complex project.”
