Road crews have been undertaking exploratory works at the Cellarhead traffic lights in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

The investigation work on the A520 Cellarhead junction is being carried out by Staffordshire County Council and is ahead of a major resurfacing scheme due to start in March 2026.

Crews will be surveying the road structure, excavating trial holes and assessing existing drainage systems.

To make sure the work can be carried out safely, temporary traffic lights will be in operation for some of the works and people are being asked to allow extra time for their journeys.

Patrick Allen, Cabinet Support Member for Highways at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“These are important investigation works ahead of a major improvement scheme scheduled for next year.  It’s all part of our wider investment and plans to improve roads right across the county.

“The main road here is a busy thoroughfare and a well-used road but crews will be doing all they can to minimise any disruption and get the work done as quickly and safely as possible.”
