A Staffordshire resident has launched a new career in marketing, thanks to the support of Staffordshire County Council’s Jobs and Careers Service and its Open Door programme.

After taking a career break to raise her family, Sarah Yasir was keen to return to work but unsure where to start. She approached the Staffordshire Jobs and Careers team for guidance and was matched with placements at We Are Staffordshire and Screen Staffordshire.

The Staffordshire Jobs & Careers Service provides advice on jobs, careers, training and learning opportunities in Staffordshire all in one place. The Employment Brokers offer bespoke advice and guidance to residents to find employment across the county and to support businesses with their recruitment requirements.

The service also operates the Open-Door Programme, which allows jobseekers to gain valuable experience via 12-week work placements. Over the years, they have helped hundreds of people successfully find employment.

With no previous experience in marketing, Sarah quickly developed new skills and discovered a passion for digital marketing. Supported by the Careers team with her CV and interview preparation, Sarah successfully secured an Apprentice Marketing Assistant role at the council.

Sarah said:

“I think Staffordshire Jobs and Careers was a blessing for me. The support I got from my employment broker was amazing and ultimately led me to getting my role now, which I love.”

Martin Murray, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“Sarah’s journey is a fantastic example of how our Open Door programme and Jobs and Careers Service can help residents unlock new opportunities and build rewarding careers right in the heart of Staffordshire. Supporting people into good jobs and fulfilling careers is a priority for the county council, and I encourage anyone looking for a fresh start to get in touch with our team.”
