Staffordshire County Council’s Finance Cabinet Lead today called for The Chancellor to provide greater financial clarity and commitment to councils, businesses and residents in Staffordshire in her budget later this month.
This morning, Rachel Reeves took the unusual step of holding a press conference three weeks ahead of her budget to trail both the pressures and priorities for the country.
Chris Large, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources, said:
Many of the challenges we face locally are shaped by decisions made nationally, and with the Autumn Statement just weeks away, we’re calling on the Government to provide the clarity and commitment that we urgently need around key pressures.
In order to continue to provide the high-quality, affordable services and support our residents and businesses rely on, we need a fair and sustainable long-term funding settlement that reflects the real challenges we face, especially in adult social care and supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities.
We agree that a “sticking plaster” temporary fix is not the answer and look forward to seeing how the Chancellor will set out in her budget the long-solutions needed to tackle these growing pressures and also how it will back business, growth and the ordinary working people of Staffordshire.”
The Chancellor will deliver her full Autumn Statement on November 26.
