Repairs on Shobnall Road in Burton are now complete, with a new parallel crossing for cyclists and pedestrians now active.
All remaining repairs to Shobnall Road in Burton have now been successfully completed, with the addition of a new crossing to improve safety for families on the school run and for cyclists.
During a Staffordshire County Council highways project to install a new shared footpath and cycleway on Shobnall Road earlier this year, crews uncovered defects beneath the road surface that required more complex repairs than originally planned.
These extra repairs were carried out over two days and completed on Monday 17 November.
With that work finished, highways crews were able to complete the new parallel crossing, making it safer for cyclists as well as children and families walking to and from Shobnall Nursery and Primary School.
Patrick Allen, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways North, said:
“I’m really pleased to confirm that all the repairs on Shobnall Road are now complete. This marks the end of a significant improvement project that will benefit everyone who travels through the area.
“I’d like to thank residents, local businesses and road users for their patience while the work was carried out. It’s great to see the route back open and in much better condition for the future.”
The new shared footpath and cycleway was installed earlier this year to bridge the gap in the National Cycle Network (NCN) 54 between the A38 overpass and Shobnall Leisure Complex on Shobnall Road.
That project was funded entirely by the Department for Transport through the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust’s (formerly Sustrans) Paths for Everyone project.
