Motorists advised to use alternative routes due to Brewood canal bridge emergency closure

LATEST NEWS BLUEGREEN

People travelling into Brewood in South Staffordshire from the west of the village are being advised to use alternative routes due to an emergency canal bridge closure caused by a burst water main.

The Canal and River Trust bridge on Kiddemore Green Road/High Green has been damaged and is now closed to traffic to ensure people’s safety. Updates will provided in due course.

Anyone travelling to the Brewood Christmas lights switch-on tomorrow (30 November) is being urged to allow extra journey time and plan a different route if necessary.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways Patrick Allen said:

This emergency bridge closure is on a main route into the village from the west of Brewood and so we’d ask people to allow extra journey time and plan in advance of travel.

This will be a really busy weekend for Brewood so we want people to have as much notice as possible before tomorrow’s event. While this isn’t a county council bridge, we’ll be working with the Canal and River Trust as it plans its repairs, and keep people updated accordingly.”
