Final repairs to Shobnall Road in Burton start this week

Posted on Thursday 13th November 2025
Shobnall Road works NEWSROOM

Final repairs to Shobnall Road will take place over a couple of days at the end of this week.

Remaining repairs to a road in Burton will begin at the end of this week.

During a Staffordshire County Council highways project to install a new shared footpath and cycleway on Shobnall Road earlier this year, crews uncovered further defects hidden beneath the road surface that required more complex repairs than originally planned.

At the time, it wasn’t possible to extend the existing road closure due to the number of other schemes taking place across Burton and the need to keep traffic moving.

These final repairs will begin on Sunday 16 November, lasting two days. This will involve a full road closure for one day, followed by one day of two-way traffic lights in operation between 9.30am and 2.30pm.

The timing of the works has been carefully chosen to avoid clashing with other local schemes and to ensure minimal disruption following the busy Screamfest event at the nearby National Forest Adventure Farm.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:

“It’s positive that these final repairs are now being carried out. We know people have been waiting for this section of road to be finished, and I want to thank everyone for their patience.

“When our crews start a job, they sometimes uncover extra problems that can’t be seen until they dig up the road’s surface. When that happens, we do everything we can to plan the extra repairs in as soon as possible whilst being careful to avoid having too many roadworks happening close together at the same time.”

The work to install the shared footpath and cycleway was funded entirely by the Department for Transport through the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust’s (formerly Sustrans) Paths for Everyone project.
