Residents praise workers over Wetley Rocks improvements as first phase completes

Residents praised the good quality of the works.

Residents in Wetley Rocks in the Staffordshire Moorlands have praised highways workers from Staffordshire County Council for their professionalism, helpfulness and for the quality of the work carried out.

The praise comes as crews complete work on the first phase of the £1.4 million scheme to reconstruct and resurface the A520 main road through Wetley Rocks.

The road has been resurfaced from the Texaco petrol station up to the Plough Bank junction.  The section from the Plough Bank junction to the 30mph gateway outside of Spring Cottage will be completed in the New Year when crews carry out works at Cellarhead.  This is due to a problem with Openreach cables, which are too close to the road surface and need to be moved.

Speaking about the scheme and crews, local resident Geoffrey said:

“Communication has been brilliant all the way through the process and it didn’t impact on us whatsoever, to be quite honest.

“They have always been there, explaining each process as it goes through, so that we’re fully aware of any inconvenience we might be caused, which has been very minimal.”

Justin, another resident at Wetley Rocks, said:

“The team made every effort to make sure that we were affected as little as possible. They worked really hard to make sure that, if we needed to go somewhere, we could - if we got deliveries coming, that they were accessible.

“They seemed to have gone above what we expected, as far as quality goes, and definitely made an attempt to leave us with the best road they can.

“I would say a huge thank you on behalf of myself, my family and the residents of Wetley Rocks.”

Patrick Allen, Cabinet Support Member for Highways North at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“It’s great to see the completion of this initial phase of the project and wonderful to hear such positive feedback from residents.

“Having been to the site on a number of occasions and spoken to the crews and engineers, I know they were determined to get the work done as quickly and efficiently as possible.  They also worked hard to keep residents informed of progress throughout the scheme and any changes to the traffic management.

“This is an important project for the area and part of wider plans and investment to improve roads right across Staffordshire.”
