Pick pumpkins and dare to enter Caverswall's scare maze this Halloween

Caverswall Screamery NEWSROOM

(L-R) James, David Moseley, Jack and Georgia are excited to welcome visitors to 'Caverswall Screamery' this Halloween.

If you’re looking for some frightful fun this Halloween, head to Caverswall Creamery for pumpkins, scares and plenty of local flavour.

Caverswall Creamery, based on one of Staffordshire County Council’s county farms, has once again opened its popular pick-your-own pumpkin patch and spooky scare maze for the Halloween season.

The annual ‘Caverswall Screamery’ event, run by tenant farmer David Moseley, has become a firm favourite with locals, attracting hundreds of visitors. On its busiest night so far this year, more than 600 people dared to take on the maze.

The scare maze continues to grow in popularity with new twists and surprises added every year. It’s ‘haunted' by a lively team of scare actors, including David’s sons James and Jack who love getting into character to give evening visitors a good fright.

David, who has been a tenant on the county farms estate for 25 years, said:

“We started the pumpkin patch as a bit of fun for the community, but it’s really taken off. People love coming down, meeting the animals, and seeing what we do here.

“Farming’s hard work, so it’s great to find ways to diversify and bring people onto the farm to enjoy it with us.”

Throughout October, visitors to the creamery can pick their own pumpkins, enjoy tractor and trailer rides, and explore the maize maze in the daylight - perfect for families and younger children.

Then, every Friday and Saturday in the run up to Halloween, the farm transforms into a spooky scare maze experience from 7pm, with last entry at 8.45pm. Tickets cost £10 per person and children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Caverswall Creamery is just one example of how Staffordshire County Council’s tenant farmers are diversifying to strengthen the rural economy and boost local tourism.

Martin Murray, Staffordshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said:

“It’s fantastic to see how our tenant farmers are finding creative new ways to grow their businesses and engage with local communities.

“Events like the one at Caverswall Creamery show just how valuable our county farms are — not just for producing food, but for supporting rural enterprise, tourism and family fun. We’re incredibly proud to keep offering opportunities like these for the next generation of farmers in Staffordshire.”

The council’s farms estate includes 63 equipped tenanted farms and additional rural properties and land, covering around 6,500 acres.

These holdings offer opportunities both for new entrants to farming and for those looking to expand their agricultural businesses.
