A £500,000 highways scheme to reconstruct a roundabout in Burton is set to go ahead from Monday 11 August.

Staffordshire County Council’s highways crews will begin to resurface the A444 Stanton Road roundabout and its approaches, along with sections of Violet Way.

This project was programmed into the school holidays and all work will be completed overnight to minimise disruption to the community as much as possible.

Crews will also clear gullies, replace ironworks and carry out repairs to footpaths where necessary.

Road closures will be in place from 7pm to 6am from Monday to Friday and crews will be onsite to assist residents with access to properties. The road will remain open, as usual, outside of those times.

The overall scheme will take around two weeks to complete.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:

This latest investment in Burton’s road network will bring long-lasting benefits for drivers, residents and businesses by improving safety and driving conditions on a well-used route.

This scheme has been scheduled to take place overnight and during the quieter summer period. Our crews have also worked hard to carefully coordinate this work with other schemes happening in Burton to keep disruption to a minimum while delivering the improvements the town needs.”

This project has been strategically planned to take place during the school summer holidays, when traffic volumes are lower and after the recent improvements to Union Street and New Street in Burton town centre, avoiding overlap and minimising disruption.

While work is also underway at the Derby Turn roundabout as part of a separate highways scheme, both sets of improvements have been carefully coordinated to avoid any conflict. The two schemes are located far enough apart that their impact on each other’s traffic flows will be minimal.
