Work to repair Gorsemoor Road to start next week

Surface Dressing NEWSROOM

Work to repair a road in Cannock affected by recent hot temperatures will be carried out next week.

Remedial work to parts of Gorsemoor Road will begin on August 18 and will last for three days. Work is taking place during the school summer holidays to minimise disruption.

During this time, the damaged part of the road surface will be milled out and replaced with a new road surface, different to the product that was laid there previously. Road markings will also be replaced, and minor defects on the road will also be fixed.

The road will take several hours to cure, so work will take place under a temporary road closure. Residents are being asked to park their cars elsewhere while the work takes place.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways said:

“Within Staffordshire, almost 100% of our network has received preventative treatment over the years with incredibly high success rates.

“Unfortunately, with the high temperatures and heatwaves we have experienced recently, parts of Gorsemoor Road did not perform as expected and started to fail. Our teams worked hard to stop the issue getting worse and since then, have been working to programme in the repairs before the schools reopen in September.

“We are asking residents to bear with us while the works are carried out, and to park elsewhere during the works so the surface has time to cure correctly.

“Our crews will be on hand to advise and assist residents wherever needed, and are pulling out all the stops to get this remedial work completed quickly.”
