Students getting their A-Levels are being encouraged to look beyond their grades and explore the many exciting paths to success - from apprenticeships to hands-on training.

Hundreds of students across the county will receive their a-level results today (August 14), and the county council’s Staffordshire Jobs and Careers service is offering anyone 18 and over fully funded, expert support for explore study, training and jobs, whatever their grades.

With a website with over 10,000 local jobs, apprenticeships, training opportunities and access to careers experts, young people can explore new careers by exploring the less obvious and traditional routes.

Adam Evans, age 22 from Newcastle, now works for KMF but his success hasn’t always followed a straight line

“I wanted to be a vet and went to university, but the subject and uni wasn’t for me.  So, after some soul searching, I found an apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication at KMF, and still to this day it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.

“My advice to anyone getting their A Level results today and thinking about their future is, don’t go to university just because everybody does it or because your mates are going. Do what is right for you and you’ll make so many new friends in the right space.”

Janet Higgins, Cabinet Member for Education at Staffordshire County Council said:

“I want to congratulate every student getting their A-Level results today – your hard work and dedication will have set you up for success no matter what you choose to do.

“Whatever your results, the Staffordshire Jobs and Careers service is there to help you choose the path that is right for you."

Martin Murray, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“Results day can be a turning point, but it is naturally stressful. When thinking about the future, there are so many options that there really is no wrong path. There are more options than ever before, and apprenticeships are a brilliant example. Adam’s journey shows how practical, work-based learning can be just as valuable as a university degree, and often better suited to some learners.

“Don’t panic. There is support available, and many ways to succeed.”
