People are being asked to help Staffordshire County Council shape care choices for adults.

The Council has launched a consultation to gather views before it finalises its Choice Policy for adults eligible for support in their own homes and in care homes.

Martin Rogerson, Cabinet Member for Health and Care, said:

“While many adults fund their own care we do fund support for around 10,000 adults including 3,000 care home residents.

“We want to make sure that our Choice Policy is fair and clear about how and where we will fund care with the limited budgets available.”

The consultation will gather views about the choice of care, including the location of care home placements.

Martin added:

“Families are often happy to see loved ones choose more expensive accommodation while they can afford to pay for it, but it can be a huge shock when the money runs out and the Council simply can’t cover the costs.

“Our new Choice Policy will make it easier for families to understand the options with the budget available to allow them to plan for the care of their loved ones both immediately and in the longer-term.”

More than two-thirds of the Council’s budget is spent on social care for adults and children.
