New Cabinet Mark 100 Days at Staffordshire County Council

Posted on Thursday 7th August 2025
Ian Cooper

The new Cabinet at Staffordshire County Council marks 100 days at the helm this weekend.

Ian Cooper, the new Leader of the Council, said the elections on May 1 saw a new leadership take the reins at a time of unprecedented challenges for local government.

Reflecting on the first 100 days, Ian said:

“With a backdrop of huge financial pressures on councils, a relatively new national Government and a looming reorganisation of local councils, we were acutely aware of the challenges that lay ahead.

“However, we know that this also presented a huge opportunity to change, work smarter and deliver more for the residents and businesses of Staffordshire and we really have hit the ground running.”

Key highlights in the first 100 days include:

  • The launch of an Internal Efficiency Review across the council to ensure every pound is well spent
  • Lobbying of Government for a speedier revision of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities legislation and a fairer funding allocation
  • An immediate change to our approach to planning roadworks in town centres, plus a cross-council campaign calling for greater powers on utility schemes
  • Creation and development of a new Community Safety Cabinet role – to prioritise safer, thriving and responsible communities
  • New drive to put Staffordshire firmly on the map for business, investment and tourism – with the new Film Office already attracting national studio interest

Ian said:

“We didn’t come into rip everything up, instead we came into transform the council, make budgets work harder to deliver more and to shout from the rooftops about this amazing county.

“We want to put Staffordshire people first, whether this is vulnerable children, the frail and elderly, commuting motorists, young adults starting out on their work journey or families wanting to live in safer communities.

“Everyone who lives here knows what a fantastic place Staffordshire is, now we want to share the message far and wide that Staffordshire is the place to choose to live, to choose to invest and grow business and to choose to visit and stay.

“It has been a fantastic first 100 days, but this is just the beginning and our message to residents, businesses and, indeed Government, is that we are just getting started.”
