Good luck wishes are being sent to England women’s football team from Staffordshire County Council’s communities leader ahead of their Euros semi-final clash with Italy on Tuesday 22 July.
After departing for the tournament in Switzerland from their home base at St George’s Park in Staffordshire, the Lionesses have reached the last four of the tournament after a thrilling quarter-final penalty shoot-out against Sweden.
Hayley Coles, the county council’s cabinet member for communities and culture, said the whole of Staffordshire was behind the team and wishing them good luck for Tuesday.
Staffordshire-schooled penalty-saving hero Hannah Hampton played a huge part in England’s victory on Thursday. Hannah attended Chase Grammar School in Cannock and Erasmus Darwin Academy in Burntwood.
Hayley Coles said:
We’re proud to have the home of all of England’s football teams here in Staffordshire and it’s great to give them a send-off to major tournaments.
The Lionesses have done exceptionally well again to reach the semi-final stage of the Euros, and it’s fantastic that Hannah Hampton is a representative of our county as a key member of the team. She’s an inspiration to so many young people who we hope are encouraged to get involved in sport.
Everyone at the county council and across Staffordshire wishes the team the best of luck for Tuesday.”
