Staffordshire Calls for Action on HS2

Posted on Thursday 10th July 2025
Ian Cooper

The Leader of Staffordshire County Council has today call for clarity on the future of HS2.

In a letter to Rail Minister Lord Hendy, Ian Cooper says Staffordshire has faced years of disruption, uncertainty and blight from the high-speed rail scheme.

Ian has now called for clarity from the Government on the future of the project - after a pause on Phase One was announced last month.

Ian added:

“This pause leaves yet more communities in limbo, facing ongoing disruption, visual and environmental degradation, and unanswered questions about their future.

“We are calling on the Government to make a clear and final decision on the future of both the Phase One and cancelled Phase 2a works in Staffordshire.”

Asks from Government include:

  • A statement on the timescales for the completion of Phase One
  • Completion or rectification of all outstanding works in the county
  • A definitive statement on the cancelled status of Phase 2a
