A major highways improvement scheme in Newcastle has been completed on time and on budget.

The £455,000 county council scheme began on 6 June and had been estimated to take around six weeks to complete.

The work involved resurfacing the Lower Milehouse Lane junction, including the approaches and exits from Douglas Road. Crews also fixed damaged drainage, kerbing and ironwork and installed additional tactile crossings to help improve pedestrian safety.

Patrick Allen, Cabinet Support Member for Highways North at Staffordshire County Council, said: “Our crews have worked incredibly hard over the last few weeks and it’s great to see this important scheme completed. It’s part of our wider plans to improve roads right across the county.

“The work that the crews have done, finishing on time and on budget, will help keep the junction in good condition for many years to come. As always, we appreciate everyone’s patience during the works and hope they enjoy their smoother journeys.”
