A business in an idyllic rural location offering luxury holiday accommodation and attracting more people to Staffordshire is extending its digital outreach thanks to a county council support programme.

Mayfield Snuggery, based in Mayfield, East Staffordshire, accessed fully funded business support workshops through the Succeed and Grow scheme. This has allowed the business to step up its branding and graphic design following expert advice and guidance.

Succeed and Grow is run by the county council for small and micro-businesses in rural areas of Staffordshire, offering support in a range of areas including marketing, legal issues and how to access funding.

Jason and Ruby Stanley established the business five years ago after purchasing some land in the village where they grew up to build their dream. Ruby had experience working at a holiday park with lodges and

Jason, who is a builder by trade, designed and constructed the five luxury wooden lodges with his dad Kevin. They include saunas and hot tubs.

Ruby discovered the Succeed and Grow scheme after being signposted by Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce. Embracing the opportunity, she participated in workshops that offered vital guidance on enhancing the business’s social media presence and overall branding.

Ruby said:

I’d encourage other businesses to contact the county council and see what support they can get - it might be more than you think. Many may not be aware that the Succeed and Grow and other support programmes are there waiting to make a difference to them.”

Ruby wanted help improving the quality of the business’s social media presence using the latest design tools.

She added:

It was so beneficial to be part of the workshops and see what other businesses were doing too. The format was just right for our business and as a result I learned how to make lots of effective changes to our branding and content, as well as know what not to do. It made me know we can improve lots of little things to make a big impression.

Getting our branding right and extending our social media reach is crucial to us. It will help us amplify what a great setting we have here – not just what we’re offering at Mayfield Snuggery but in our wonderful surroundings in Staffordshire. On the doorstep we have gems such as Dimmingsdale Valley, Churnet Valley Railway and Dovedale and of course Alton Towers. We feel it’s important as a hospitality business to promote and support Staffordshire’s places to visit and attractions.”

Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills Martin Murray said:

It’s fantastic to see a business like Mayfield Snuggery thriving and attracting visitors from across the UK to this magnificent Staffordshire setting.

We’re pleased that our Succeed and Grow has supported Ruby and Jason through advice which can help their enterprise to grow further by reaching even more people.

Their business demonstrates how ambition and a clear vision can deliver a quality offer to their customers, who have returned again and again.

Working with nearby attractions benefits local businesses, visitors and Staffordshire’s economy. We wish them every success in the future and would urge any rural small business to get in touch to find out more about Succeed and Grow and other support programmes.”

Small businesses wanting to find out more about Succeed and Grow and a range of support programmes should call Staffordshire County Council’s Growth Hub on 0300 111 8002 or visit its website.
