New Leader and Cabinet chosen for Staffordshire County Council

Staffordshire County Council Leader Ian Cooper
A new Leader has been formally chosen at a meeting of members of Staffordshire Full Council.
Ian Cooper was selected as Leader on Thursday 22 May along with Deputy Leader Martin Murray, who will also be Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills.
The other Cabinet members are:
• Martin Rogerson - Cabinet Member for Health and Care
• Nicholas Lakin - Cabinet Member for Children and Young People
• Andrew Mynors - Cabinet Member for Connectivity
• Peter Mason - Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways
• Chris Large - Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources
• Hayley Coles - Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture
• Janet Higgins - Cabinet Member for Education and SEND
• Anthony Screen - Cabinet Member for Community Safety
Ian said:
I am delighted to be formally selected as Leader of the Staffordshire County Council. Now the Cabinet and myself can really press on with delivering our priorities for Staffordshire residents and businesses.
This includes examining in detail how, where and how much we are spending across the council, focusing first on core service, such as the care of the elderly, children’s services and highways and promoting clean, safe and thriving communities.”
In the May 1 elections, Reform UK party clinched 49 seats on the council. The Conservatives secured 10 seats, Labour one, the Green Party one and Independents one to make up the 62 seats. A by-election for the Eccleshall and Gnosall ward is due to take place following the resignation of a Reform UK councillor.
