A major road scheme will be starting in Lichfield next week.
Works will begin to resurface the A515 Lichfield Road, Rileyhill on Monday 2 June, and will last for around 2 weeks, weather permitting.
Crews will be fully resurfacing the road, replacing bridge surface joints, repairing kerbs and drainage, and replacing road markings and cat’s eyes.
The £360,000 scheme will be carried out from the south of the West Coast Main Line railway bridge, and will end 40 metres north of the Wood End Lane junction.
Works will be carried out during weekdays and at weekends if needed to ensure they are finished as quickly as possible.
Due to the nature of the works, the road will have to be closed between 7am and 7pm. Works must be carried out during daylight hours due to the lack of streetlights, and the extent and complexity of the works, especially those over the railway bridge.
Working during the day means easier access to materials such as bitumen and crews are able to work longer hours to get the job finished.
A signed diversion route will be in place, but emergency services will be allowed access. Access in to and out of Wood End Lane will be made available when safe to do so.
Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways Peter Mason said: “These works will see a large stretch of the A515 completely resurfaced, and are a key part of our structural maintenance improvement programme.
“Crews will be keeping disruption to a minimum, but because they are working close to a railway bridge, and in a place where there are no streetlights present, these works must be done during the day under a road closure. The diversion will be fully signed, and we apologise for any inconvenience this might cause to motorists. Rest assured, our crews will be working hard to get the road finished and open as quickly as possible, if weather conditions allow. They will also be reviewing the road closures every day, and lifting them as early as possible if they can.
“When the road is back open, I hope people will be able to enjoy the benefits of a better road surface for years to come.”
