Dates for the temporary relocation of Leek library have been changed to later this summer.
The library was due to move into Moorlands House later this month while the Nicholson Institute is refurbished.
However, the revised work programme for the Nicholson Institute means that the library is now due to relocate temporarily later this year.
Catherine Mann, Staffordshire County Council’s Assistant Director for Culture, Rural and Safer Communities, said:
We have plans in place for the library to open temporarily nearby while the Nicholson Institute is refurbished.
In the long term we’re delighted at the prospect of another of our 43 libraries being refurbished, and in the short term, when the time comes, residents will be able to use the temporary library at Moorlands House.”
Leek Library’s refurbishment is part of the wider £4 million improvements to the Nicholson Institute, which is also home to the town’s museum and art gallery.
This funding comes from a £17.1 million central government grant for town centre improvements which was secured in 2023 by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, in partnership with Staffordshire County Council.
In the last decade Staffordshire County Council has opened new libraries in Newcastle, Stafford, Codsall and Lichfield, while completely refurbishing Burton and Tamworth.
