Investigative work on Cannock's town centre subway under the A34 Ringway is taking place ahead of major works next spring.

The subway will be infilled in 2025 as part of the £20million regeneration plans for Cannock town centre, when a new pedestrian crossing will be installed.

To enable the structural investigations to take place, the subway and footways leading to it will need to be closed for a fortnight from Monday 4 November. Some lane closures on the A34 Ringway will also be needed.

The Cannock town centre regeneration scheme led by the district council and funded by UK Government.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways Mark Deaville said:

“These initial investigative works at the A34 Ringway subway come ahead of the major scheme next year which will see it infilled and replaced by a new pedestrian crossing.

“To carry out this phase safely we will need to close the subway for two weeks from Monday 4 November as well as the walkways around it. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
