A free training programme for business representatives to support their organisation in reducing its carbon footprint and drive down waste has reached a major milestone.

The Carbon Literacy Training initiative offered by Staffordshire County Council, aims to empower local businesses with the knowledge and tools needed to enhance their sustainability practices.

Stafford business AP Webb Plant Hire Ltd’s Jason Charlton has become the 200th person to complete the course. The course is delivered by the Staffordshire Business Environment Network.

Jason said:

Successfully completing the carbon literacy training will help to identify areas of sustainability. This could involve reducing energy consumption, choosing ecofriendly products, and minimising waste while supporting local green practices. There's a lot we can do.”

The training covers a range of topics, including energy efficiency, waste reduction and the adoption of eco-friendly products and practices.

Businesses are also encouraged to apply for a free energy assessment, which will look at businesses energy consumption and provide them with recommendations to save money and reduce their carbon emissions.

And they are being reminded of the huge opportunities now being offered through the Green Solutions programme – offering grants of up to £100,000 to implement sustainable improvements to their operations.

Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills Philip White said:

It’s great to see the growing interest and commitment from local businesses in embracing sustainable practices. It’s an integral part of the process of updating and innovating business operations that they contribute to its overall carbon reduction.

The Carbon Literacy Training programme is a testament to Staffordshire's dedication to creating a greener and more environmentally conscious business community."

Staffordshire businesses can apply to take part in the free Carbon Literacy training by visiting the Green Solutions website or emailing the team.
