A major road improvement scheme to the north of Stafford is progressing with road surfacing set to take place over a two-week period beginning on Sunday October 15.
The project has seen the construction of a roundabout junction to provide access to the new Pets at Home development on the A34, which is now open. It is expected to employ more than 750 people when fully operational.
Staffordshire County Council’s highways team has built a new roundabout on the A34 to provide access to the development. The works have been funded by commercial property developer Stoford.
From this Sunday October 15, road surfacing, line marking and traffic signals installation will take place.
So that work can be carried out safely, 12 overnight closures will be necessary from October 15, between 8pm and 6am, apart from the nights of Saturday October 21 and Sunday October 22. The closure will be between the A51 Aston roundabout and A513 Redhill roundabout, with a signed diversion route in place via A5013, A519, A51. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times.
The scheme includes improved cycling and pedestrian facilities, a signalised crossing, new bus stops and improved street lighting. It is scheduled for completion in the next few weeks.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said:
We’re now reaching the final stages of this project which provides access to the new Pets at Home development that will create hundreds of jobs in our county.
While road surfacing, marking and signals installation takes place we will unfortunately need to put the overnight closures in place, helping us to do the work safely and as quickly as possible.
