Details on what will be the UK’s most significant rail served logistics development approved by the Government at a South Staffordshire site will be revealed at a free information event for local businesses on November 1.
The West Midlands Interchange will offer up to 8million sq ft of flexible premium logistics facilities at the South Staffordshire site which lies north of the M54 and between the M6 and A449.
Businesses can meet the developers, have an exclusive first look at plans with potential skills and community benefits and find out about upcoming supply chain opportunities. The event takes place at the Codsall Community Hub on Tuesday November 1, between 9.30am and 11.30am.
The West Midlands Interchange (WMI) will be the largest site of its kind in the UK and one of the biggest in Europe. The WMI will deliver world leading logistics warehousing within a strategic rail freight interchange.
WMI says the development will create 8,500 jobs and two new country parks covering 109 acres. By replacing road freight for rail there will be a 70% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The event will feature presentations by developers and construction partners Logistics Capital Partners and Winvic.
Speakers include Staffordshire County Council deputy leader Philip White, South Staffordshire Council leader Roger Lees and director of corporate planning and infrastructure at South Staffordshire Council Annette Roberts.

Government has decided that the WMI will be built in Staffordshire, and it is important that we work together with our partners to make sure the local economy and communities can take the maximum benefit from the development in addition to mitigating environmental impact and pressures on infrastructure in the surrounding area.
This is a hugely significant development for the region and the UK, but our priority is making sure Staffordshire people and businesses also get something positive in return for hosting the WMI locally.
That is why information events like this are important – giving people an insight at the earliest opportunity.”
