With many families choosing to holiday locally, Staffordshire’s tourism team has revealed some of its top days out and places to visit during the warm weather and school Summer holidays.
Staffordshire is attraction central, the best playground in the country, with hundreds of exciting places just waiting to be explored. And with wall to wall sunshine forecast over the next week, there is something for everyone.
Thrill seekers can check out Drayton Manor Resort for adrenaline-filled excitement, including Shockwave or cool down at Adventure Cove on the River Rapids or Stormforce 10 water ride. Families can also visit Europe’s only Thomas Land and the all new Viking area.
The Alton Towers Resort also offers some of the UK’s best rides and rollercoasters plus some cooler activities like those in Mutiny Bay and CBeebies Land. Visitors can also enjoy the fun of splashing around at the adjacent Alton Towers waterpark.
There’s even a beach to be found in landlocked Staffordshire this year at Lichfield Cathedral. People can relax in a deck chair, soak up some sunshine and build sandcastles, all for free. And nearby, The National Forest Adventure Farm has lots of family fun, both indoor and outdoor. Visitors can navigate the maize maze, enjoy live shows and join the foam party during this year’s Farmarama Festival of Fun.
A wealth of delights also awaits visitors at many family-friendly attractions including the Trentham Estate, with a huge outdoor play area, barefoot walk and formal gardens, plus a choice of eateries and shops. Families can also drop in and say hello to the monkeys, who’ll be basking in the sunshine, at neighbouring Trentham Monkey Forest.
The World of Wedgwood offers visitors an indoor, behind-the-scenes experience. On this tour they reveal where they design, create and craft Wedgwood pottery. People could follow this up with a trip to their tea rooms to experience a traditional afternoon tea and kids can enjoy the Little Gardeners Afternoon Tea.
The National Memorial Arboretum is celebrating sport, service and the friendship between the nations and territories of the Commonwealth this Summer with activities and games for all ages.
And for those looking to stay out of the sun there’s also the Tamworth Snowdome with a range of chilly activities including ice skating, skiing or snowboarding and snow fun.

As well as the county’s amazing attractions, Staffordshire’s country parks, canal network and outdoor spaces also provide the ideal setting for a summer walk. The Peak District National Park, the National Forest and Cannock Chase all offer beautiful scenery and picturesque views for lovers of nature. People should follow any local advice from the rangers when visiting these locations.
