Don't let Covid ruin your summer holiday plans

Residents are being urged to get protected this summer to avoid holiday disappointment.

Many residents will be making plans for summer, which may include a holiday abroad, attending a festival or spending time with loved ones. A new summer covid campaign is encouraging residents to get fully vaccinated to reduce the risk of becoming seriously ill with Covid.

People planning to travel abroad are being reminded to check the entry requirements of their destination to ensure all members of the family that need to be vaccinated have time to get both doses. Countries which require proof of vaccinations include popular holiday destinations such as USA, Germany, Netherlands and New Zealand. A full list of Covid-19 entry requirements can be found at: www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice.

Staffordshire County Council’s Director of Public Health, Dr Richard Harling, said:

“Whilst we are all looking forward to enjoying new freedoms this summer, it’s important to remember that Covid has not gone away, and I encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated as soon as they can.

If you are planning to travel abroad, make sure you check the entry requirements of your destination to avoid disappointment. The best way to take the stress out of making travel plans, and to protect yourself and your family from Covid, is by getting fully vaccinated.”

Anyone who still needs a first, second or booster vaccine can book an appointment online or attend a walk-in clinic.

Anybody aged 5 and over is eligible for a first and second dose and people aged 16 and over are eligible for the booster jab.  The NHS is also offering a spring booster dose to people over the age of 75 and those aged 12 and over with weakened immune systems.

People can find details of walk-in clinics at: www.nhs.uk/grab-a-jab

More information on the vaccine can be found at: www.nhs.uk/coronavirusvaccine.
