Check Covid rules ahead of Summer Holiday

Posted on Tuesday 10th May 2022

People planning to travel abroad are being reminded to check the Covid-19 entry requirements of their holiday destinations.

Vaccine entry requirements differ between countries, meaning that travellers might need to provide proof of being fully vaccinated to enter or follow the rules in place for unvaccinated passengers.

Some countries now also require people to have had a booster jab if a specific amount of time has passed since their initial course of the vaccine, usually 270 days.

Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Support Member for Public Health and Integrated Care, Dr Johnny McMahon, urged residents to check ahead and get fully vaccinated and boosted as soon as possible to ease travel stress.

“Many Staffordshire residents will be planning trips abroad for the first time since the pandemic began and it’s important to remember that although England’s restrictions have been lifted, many other destinations still have them in place for visitors.

“The last thing people want is for travel plans to become unstuck at the last minute, so I urge everybody to check the entry requirements of their holiday destination in advance and if you need to get a vaccine or booster, book an appointment or attend one of the county’s walk-in clinics as soon as possible.”

Countries with Covid-19 entry requirements currently in place include popular European destinations such as: Italy, Spain, France and Portugal. People are also advised to check the rules if they are travelling through other countries on the way to their final destination.
