Highways improvements for Staffordshire Village

Residents in a Staffordshire Moorlands village could benefit from highways improvements to help improve road safety in the area.

Staffordshire county Council’s highways team are investigating the possibility of installing additional advisory signs on Cheadle Road in Tean.

Signs could include, “Please drive carefully through our village”.

David Williams, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways at Staffordshire County Council said:

“Keeping our roads safe is a top priority and we continue to have some of the safest roads in the country.

“We do listen to residents when they have concerns about road safety and our highways team are looking at a scheme to install additional advisory signs in the village.”

Staffordshire County Councillor, Mark Deaville added:

“I’ve been listening carefully to local residents concerns about safety on the road for a number of years now.

“I would like to reassure people that road safety, particularly the safety of children is my greatest priority and I’m working  with our highways department to find a solution. This is a busy road which has seen a considerable increase in the amount of traffic travelling to and from Alton Towers as well as more lorries going to JCB, other companies and local quarries.

“I use the road on a regular basis myself and I know, first-hand, that unfortunately some drivers choose to drive through the village too fast. Whilst some drivers take little or no notice of signs, most drivers do and I’m sure that the additional safety signs we’re proposing will make a difference.”
