The majority of parents in Staffordshire will find out today (April 16) that they have been allocated their first-choice primary school.

94 per cent of parents will find out that they have been allocated a place at their top preferred primary school, with nearly 99 per cent being offered one of their top three.

Figures revealed today show that out of a total 8993 places allocated, 8465 received their first-choice primary school while 8963 were allocated one of their top three.

The figures come a day after the county council agreed a £26million investment in schools over the next academic year.

County Councillor Philip White, cabinet member for Learning and Employability said:

“It is hugely important for parents to know what school their children will be attending in September, which is why our admissions team have been pulling out all the stops to ensure all Staffordshire parents know where their children will be going in September.

“This is despite the current coronavirus crisis, which has meant officers at the county council have had to be diverted into other duties, or work in different ways to get the job done.

“Our forward planning and investment in the provision of more school places over the past five years has meant we have been consistently able to allocate more than 90% of parents their first choice of primary and secondary schools. The latest announcement of a further £26 million to be invested in schools over the next academic year will mean we can continue this work to ensure our schools are fit for the future.”

Parents who applied online will be receiving emails about the results from today onwards.
