Staffordshire sees year end on near full employment

End of year figures show Staffordshire has continued near full employment as the county looks forward to more growth in 2019.
Latest statistics show that just 1.3 per cent of the local population is claiming out of work benefits – lower than both regional (2.9 per cent) and national (2.3 per cent) averages. The actual number of claimants in Staffordshire fell from 7,110 to 6,980 between October and November.
Staffordshire County Council’s economic growth leader Mark Winnington said with significant developments scheduled to take place in 2019, people could look forward to more employment opportunities.
Mark added:
It is pleasing that throughout 2018 we have seen near full employment and at the same time are seeing more employment opportunities and people’s skills improving.
Through close working with our partners we have increased prosperity in our county. In 2019 we will be embarking on major development projects which will contribute to long-term growth.
Our planned extension of i54 South Staffordshire, beginning of construction of the Stafford Western Access Route and Lichfield Southern Bypass and achieving full occupancy at sites like Four Ashes and Redhill will all take place next year which is hugely positive news for the county.
