What is her role?

Neelam Bhardwaja

Neelam is a member of our Senior Leadership Team and has been Director for Children’s and Families since June 2022.

As the Director for Children’s and Families, Neelam is Statutory Director for Children’s Services and has accountability for all services relating to children and families including:

  • Wellbeing
  • Social care
  • Education
  • Early help
  • Partnerships
  • Commissioning

What experience does she have?

Neelam is a qualified social worker and has extensive experience of working across children’s services in various local authorities. She has held several Assistant Director and Director level posts and brings a vast experience of partnership working and managing and improving all aspects of children’s services.

Neelam has also been the president of the Association of the Directors of Social Services (Wales). Along with the Director of Public Health, she also successfully led Cardiff Council’s successful bid to be a Healthy City under the World Health Organisation’s Healthy Cities Programme.
