Staffordshire Moorlands walks

Distance: 4 miles (short walk), 8 miles (long walk)
Estimated walk time: 2 hours (short walk), 4 hours (long walk)
Starting point: Deep Hayes Country Park Visitor Centre.
Facilities: Parking, toilets and refreshments are available at the Visitor Centre (OS961533). Pubs can be found along the route.
The long walk goes along the Caldon Canal to Cheddleton before arriving at a viewpoint at Tompkin. The route then follows a trackway to Stanley Pool and village before returning to the canal near Hazelhurst Aqueduct.

Estimated walk time: 4 to 5 hours
Starting point: Oakamoor picnic site
Facilities: Parking at Oakamoor picnic site (SK053446), A small shop and a pub can be found at both Oakamoor and Whiston.
This walk begins in Oakamoor, follows Cotton Dell upstream to a nature reserve, then climbs up through woodland and over the hill tops to Whiston. From there the walk crosses the valley and passes through the National Trust's woods at Hawksmoor before returning to Oakamoor.
There are four waymarked trails within the Consall Nature Park.
The Green Walk
Distance: 1 mile

Starting point: Consall Valley visitor centre
Facilities: There is parking at the visitors centre along with shops and toilets.
The Green walk takes you around the ponds of the Nature Park.
The Red Walk
Distance: 3 miles
Estimated walk time: 1 hour
Starting point: Consall Valley visitor centre
Facilities: There is parking at the visitors centre along with shops and toilets.
This route has steep gradients through some of the woodland.
The White Walk
Distance: 5 miles
Estimated walk time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Starting point: Consall Valley visitor centre
Facilities: There is parking at the visitors centre along with shops and toilets.

The Purple Walk
Distance: Half a mile
Estimated walk time: 30 minutes
Starting point: Extension to the White Walk
Facilities: No facilities are available on this walk.
An extension of the White Walk. This route has very steep gradients.
Distance: 5 miles
Estimated walk time: 3 hours
Starting point: Alton Village Hall.
Facilities: Parking is available at Alton Village Hall (SK074420). Alton village has some small shops and pubs.
The walk follows the River Churnet and the routes of an old canal and railway to Denstone, before returning to Alton across the hilltops along the ancient Saltersford Lane.
Distance: 3.5 miles (short walk), 7 miles (long walk)
Estimated walk time: 2 hours (short walk), 3 hours (long walk).
Starting point: Timbersbrook car park
Facilities: Parking at Timbersbrook village car park (OS895627). Refreshments are served at the pub in Rushton Spencer.
This walk follows the Staffordshire Way over The Cloud. It then continues through a wooded valley, past the river Dane and along the course of the old North Rode to Leek railway line to reach Rushton Spencer.
