Apply for under 16 SEN travel assistance

Before you apply for travel assistance, please refer to Staffordshire’s Home to School Transport Policy to ensure that your child is eligible. Different arrangements apply for post 16 students

For those having their first ECHP issued - once your final EHCP has been issued, you will be advised of the walking distance to help inform your decision regarding your child’s travel arrangements by your child’s allocated SEND Key Worker. If you are applying for travel assistance as your child is under walking distance and has a physical, or learning disability that means they cannot be reasonably expected to safely walk the distance to the nearest suitable school, even when accompanied, this would need to be demonstrated by providing recent (within the last 12 months) supporting professional information from either a School, Hospital, Consultant, or Specialist Support Service of their opinion of your child’s needs rather than family circumstances. You should upload this evidence in the application.

For applications for travel assistance at other times, please contact your SEND Key Worker.

Do not make an application until your child’s full-time attendance and timetable has been agreed with the named school in the EHCP.  If your child is eligible, travel assistance will be provided for one return journey at the beginning and end of the normal school day / week and will be from your child’s main address held by the school named in the EHCP.

Apply online - Citizen Portal

It may take up to 10 days to make a decision on your application, and if agreed then a further 20 working days after we get your application to arrange transport. You will have to make and pay for your own travel arrangements during this time.
