Behaviour and safety on transport
Behaviour on Transport
Travel assistance is provided on the understanding that children behave appropriately while on the vehicle. Parents remain responsible for their child’s behaviour during the journey to and from school.
‘No Pass, No Travel’ Policy
Staffordshire County Council contracted home-to-school routes operate a strict ‘no pass, no travel’ policy. This ensures only entitled pupils board the vehicle and prevents overloading.
- Children must carry their pass every day for contracted or public transport and show it when asked.
- If a pass is not shown, transport may be refused, and parents will need to make and fund alternative arrangements.
- Lost or damaged passes can be replaced by contacting Transport and the Connected County (see Contacts section). A £5 administration fee applies.
Behaviour Standards
The Authority may withdraw travel assistance if:
- Behaviour creates a safety hazard for the child or others.
- There is persistent or serious abuse of the system.
Examples of unacceptable behaviour include:
- Offensive language.
- Actions that endanger road users, pedestrians, passengers, or the driver.
- Damage to the vehicle.
Consequences
- Parents will be notified by letter if travel assistance is to be withdrawn for a set period.
- In serious cases, an immediate and permanent ban may apply.
- The withdrawal would indicate that travel arrangements were necessary and had been made, but that the child’s behaviour was such that they are unable to take advantage of them.
- Parents must then arrange alternative travel and pay for any damage caused.
- The Police may be informed where appropriate.
