As part of the Public Sector Equality Duty, we are required to:
- Publish information about our workforce, broken down by protected characteristics
- Set and publish equality objectives every four years

Workforce equality data
As of 1 January 2025, Staffordshire County Council employed 4,773 people across five directorates. Key insights include:
- Gender: 77% of our workforce is female
- Age: Average age is 46.7; 29% are under 40, and 14% are aged 60+
- Disability: 11% of known staff have a disability
- Religion: Christianity is the most common religion (51% of known responses); 41% report no religion
- Ethnicity: 10% of known staff are from ethnic backgrounds other than White British
- Sexual orientation: 4.3% of known staff identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or other
- Pregnancy and maternity: 88% of staff return to work after maternity leave
- Gender reassignment: Data is not published to protect confidentiality
